Who We Are

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee County (the Society) was founded in 1910 by a group of community leaders with a passion to help the Milwaukee County Zoo (the Zoo) and its animals. Today, the Society is an award-winning nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve wildlife and endangered species, educate people about the importance of wildlife and the environment, and support the Milwaukee County Zoo.

The Society has more than 40 full-time and 60 part-time and seasonal employees. We have many different departments to create one collaborative environment. Jobs at the Society include customer service, education, theater, graphic design, finance, fundraising, special events and communications.

The Zoological Society is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to an environment that is inclusive and welcoming – celebrating the diverse qualities, perspectives, values, and experiences of all people. Simply put, we welcome all people at all times.

College Internship Opportunities

The Zoological Society of Milwaukee’s Conservation Education Department provides paid internship opportunities for current college students or recent graduates as part of our summer enrichment (Zoo Camp) programs. Interns help educate children ages 2-14 about science, animals, and conservation through interactive teaching strategies. Internship positions are open to any major of study for those passionate about education, conservation, wildlife, natural resources and/or social sciences.

We are not accepting internship applications for summer 2021. An updated job description and application for next summer will be posted spring of 2022! Please wait for the posting for more details and information. We are not able to intake intern inquiries, applications or questions at this time.

High School Assistant Volunteer Opportunities

While the quality of our programming remains the same, the quantities of our services and programs are different as we emerge from this pandemic. We are unable to run the high school assistant program this summer. We hope and anticipate that as the pandemic continues to subside, more of our typical services and programs will return. Until then, we appreciate your understanding.

If you have interest in getting involved during summer 2022, please follow this link to be added to the interest list.
